New Legal Victory: Sought Cop City records are public under Georgia's Open Records Act!

Atlanta, GA: A Fulton County Superior Court has ruled that records requested from the Atlanta Polic Foundation (colloquially known as "Cop City") by various media outlets are public under Georgia’s Open Records Act.

The list of requested records included APF’s board minutes, board agendas, and communications, which APF fought fiercely to protect. APF was represented in Court by Harold Melton, a former chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court. The Plaintiffs, the Atlanta Community Press Collective and Lucy Parsons Labs, were represented by Joy Ramsingh, Luke Andrews, and Samantha Hamilton.

As the Court rightfully noted, after Plaintiffs submitted their requests, "There was no response. None. There was testimony a year and a half later as to why there was no response. But, there was no response." Order at page 9.

The Court went on to find that APF's claimed legal defenses were inapplicable and granted full access to all of the sought records that had been submitted to the Court for in camera review.
